Starting a healthy lifestyle is simple. Three pieces of advice I can give you to be on your way to a healthier lifestyle are; sets your goals, be consistent, and do your research.
Set your goals:
Setting goals is important. And when I say "set goals", I mean REALISTIC goals. One common mistake people make when trying to live a healthy lifestyle is setting unrealistic goals. One important thing to remember is that, everyone has different starting and end points. Your goal isn't always going to be the same as someone else's and what works for you doesn't always work for someone else and visa versa.
Start out with a short term goal; something you can achieve in a short amount of time. For example, doing cardio 2 days a week for 20 mins. You want your short term goal to be again, realist, but something that'll give you some motivation.
Medium term goal; a goal that can be achieved in a month-1 year. This could be something such as losing five pounds, or increasing your weight/reps, or even increasing cardio.
Long term goal; a long term goal can be anywhere from a year to 5 years. This goal is what you're striving to achieve, you're biggest change. For example, this could be losing x amount of weight, putting on x amount of muscle, or being consistent in the gym for x amount of time.
Setting goals holds you accountable. It gives you the motivation to push forward and work your ass off to achieve the lifestyle you want.
Being consistent:
Being consistent in not only the gym but with your eating is crucial. Another common mistake that is made is people craving results but not putting in the work or effort that goes into it. Eating a healthy diet consists of 80% of your progress where working out is only 20%. I'm sure you've heard that multiple times but, it's the truth. If you're inconsistent and your diet is all over the place you're not going to receive the results you're itching for or you won't achieve them as quickly. Be consistent, hold your self accountable for getting up going to the gym, or even take the dog for a walk, and be consistent with your eating. Tracking macros is the easiest way to make sure your diet is on point, especially when you're first starting your fitness journey.
DO YOUR RESEARCH:
I can't stress this enough. Doing your research is SOOOOOO important when it comes to dieting and working out. Starting out in the gym can be scary, everyones been there, even me. Even though I was an athlete my whole life, going to gym was scary for me, because I had NO IDEA what I was doing. I would watch youtube and instagram videos for hours about different workouts and the different muscles in your body. You don't always have to pay an arm and a leg for a personal trainer if you do your research. My favorite people to watch when it comes to fitness are, Christian Guzman, Heidi Sommers, Whitney Simmons, Krissy Cela, Linn Lowes, and Meggan Grubb. I enjoy watching those specific influencers because they are so passionate about fitness and making sure all of their followers have correct form and are performing the workouts effectively. By doing research, it will help cause you from making mistakes or hurting yourself in the gym. The same thing goes for dieting. Researching healthy foods will help keep you on track, especially if you get tired of eating the same thing. So many people stick to the same meal because it's their "safety meal", but after a while you become sick of it. So researching different meals or even meal prep services will help you stay consistent because, it changes up what you're eating everyday.
I will be sharing my fitness journey as much as possible on this blog post and hopefully I can inspire some of you! Thank you for reading my first blog post.
